 SATURDAY only PRACTICE AND RACE DAY

Dear Western Cape Downhill Members

Due to the ‘big’ rain in Saturday evening and Sunday we have been forced to limit the race to a one-day-only event. We are in the process of notifying ALL the service provides, security, safety officers, commissaires etc. It is a huge task for the committee and we did not take this decision lightly. 

Unfortunately, the school boy Saturday sport and Saturday workers will be compromised. We will also need to exclude the eBike category that we were hoping to test-run as it would prove too time consuming. Please email Helen ([email protected]) if you need to withdraw from the event. It would be easiest for Western Cape Downhill to move your entry to 25, 26 January 2025, Spice Route event or races thereafter. You can let Helen know in an email. 

Please keep an eye on the WCDH Updates group for practice and race times for Saturday. We will start the event a little earlier and end later. Registration will open at 06:30 on Saturday at the race village. Practice opens at 07:00 to about 12:00. Two race runs thereafter.

If there is only 1 rider in any category at National-, Regional- or Provincial Championships, then the Championship and any awards, trophies or jerseys may not be granted, and there will be no champion crowned

Each rider is classified according to his or her age on December 31st of the current year. The age class and category to which a rider belongs is identified on the Cycling SA license.

NOTE: No rider younger than 8 years may compete in a mountain bike event in excess of 10 Km or DHI.

Racing License and Identification

1.1 A valid Cycling South Africa membership/ license or foreign license is required for participation in all Cycling SA MTB sanctioned events, including, but not limited to Cross Country, Marathons, Enduro, Downhill, Gravel. Time Trial, Observed Trials, 4X, Stage Races, MTB relays and endurance events. The licensing requirements for all cycling events are determined by Cycling SA and may vary from season to season.

CSA MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

All riders taking part require one of the following:

Full Racing License

This category of license is for riders from the age of 17-years-old who wish to be eligible for provincial and national selection and respective colours award. The bearer of a full license is entitled to partake in national championships or series race and be seeded accordingly. Those of who race in the UCI categories (Junior, U23 and Elite) earn UCI points, which will assist them in being seeded at future UCI category events, UCI World Cups and UCI World Championships. The cost of a full racing license is R450 per year, and the applicant has to be member of an affiliated club, as well as be a registered member of Cycling SA. These MUST be done simultaneously for a Full Racing License to be valid. Full Racing Licenses are only valid from 1 January to 31 December each year.

Day License

The Day-license is designed to allow the absolute newcomers of the sport to participate within the rules and regulations of the sport. These participants, who do not hold a full license or membership, need to purchase a day license. By purchasing a day license the rider agrees to participate in the event and abide with the rules of the event and those of Cycling SA for that day. A day license costs R35 and is only valid for one day.
